A 24-year-old housewife (name withheld) of Bantu Village, Ningi Local Government area of Bauchi State, has been arrested by the police for alleged culpable homicide.
A statement from the Police Public Relations Officer Bauchi State Command, SP Ahmed Mohamed Wakil, indicates that on the 19th of August, 2023, the Ningi divisional police headquarters received a report that a four-day-old baby born on the 15th of August, 2023 was alleged to have been killed by the suspect.
Wakil said Police preliminary investigation revealed that the suspect is a co-wife to the victim’s mother and she had entered the co-wife’s room with insecticide liquid (Gamalin) and applied it to the baby’s umbilical cord, which eventually led to his death.
Investigations continued into the case, Police said.
