You’ve heard about social media handle verification and you may even have your social media handles or platforms verified.
Apart from the prestige that goes with having your social media platform verified, verification badge also makes it impossible for people to clone your identity word for word.
Now, Yahoo has introduced BIMI support in Yahoo Mail!
Yahoo Mail uses BIMI (Brand Indicators for Message Identification) to verify businesses and senders with their brand logos as a way to further user safety and security.
“Only companies that meet our authentication and security requirements are eligible to be verified under BIMI, thus helping to ensure a richer and safer email experience for Yahoo users,” the company says.
It adds, “If you see a verified company logo, rest assured that the contents provided are from the actual company and not a phishing or scam attempt.”
The way it works is that Yahoo Mail displays verification tick marks and the “Sender verified by Yahoo” label next to email addresses when the sender has completed an authentication process called Domain Keys Identified Mail (DKIM) or Sender Policy Framework (SPF).
What is BIMI?
Brand Indicators for Message Identification or BIMI is an emerging email specification that enables the use of brand-controlled logos within supporting email clients.
BIMI leverages the work an organization has put into deploying DMARC protection, by bringing brand logos to the customer’s inbox.
For the brand’s logo to be displayed, the email must pass DMARC authentication checks, ensuring that the organization’s domain has not been impersonated.
