Mr Ken Omusi, the Edo youth leader of the Labour Party on Thursday took over as the acting chairman of the party, ousting the Kelly Ogbaloi-led State Working Committee.
Addressing newsmen in Benin, Omusi announced the formation of a three-man interim executive committee with himself as the chairman to run the affairs of the party, pending the election of new executives.
Omusi attributed the change in leadership to oppressive and autocratic leadership style of the previous executives.
He said that the former executives were bent on destroying the party with the suspension of over 350 members without following proper disciplinary procedures.
“I, Ken Omusi, is the acting chairman, comrade Stanley Orobosa and other members of the committee.
“We have three men committee in the state, three men committee in each of the 18 local government areas and three men committee in each of the 192 wards, ”he added.
Omusi called on the national leadetship of party in Abuja to ratify the the decision in the best interest of the party.
But, Ogbaloi told newsmen that he remained the authentic Edo LP chairman
He said that Omusi lacked the authority to sack any member of the state working committee, emphasising that only the national working committee had such power. (NAN)
