The wife of President, Mrs. Remi Tinubu, is set to provide financial support totaling N950m to 250 police, military retirees, and senior citizens nationwide through the Renewed Hope Initiative Elderly Support Scheme.
Each beneficiary will receive N100,000 to address economic challenges, as announced during the inaugural Renewed Hope Initiative Elderly Support Scheme in Abuja.
Mrs. Tinubu emphasized the program’s commitment to the well-being of elderly citizens, highlighting its significance in creating a more inclusive and compassionate society.
According to her, the disbursement of N950m, approved by the Governing Board, aims to alleviate the economic burdens faced by the selected elderly citizens aged 65 and above across all 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory, and veterans from the Defence and Police Officers’ Wives Association.
To ensure equal distribution, she stated that each state will receive N25m for distribution to beneficiaries without discrimination.
Mrs. Tinubu urged senior citizens to support and pray for President Bola Tinubu, emphasizing that the initiative seeks to bring joy and comfort during the festive period while looking forward to a better Nigeria in various aspects, including security, education, health, employment, and business opportunities.
The Chief of Defence Staff, Gen. Christopher Musa, commends the First Lady’s efforts, noting that her gestures towards retirees will motivate those still in service.
Represented by Maj. Gen. Danladi Saliu, the Director of Veteran Affairs at Defence Headquarters, Gen. Musa expressed gratitude for Mrs. Tinubu’s commitment to the welfare of the armed forces, both serving and retired, predicting that history will remember her for bringing renewed hope to the members and their families.
He emphasized the positive impact of this noble act on the morale and efficiency of the armed forces.
