Zamfara Deputy Gov visits flood-ravaged communities

Zamfara Deputy Governor, Mani Mummuni, on Tuesday visited communities ravaged by the recent flood disaster in Gummi Local Government Area.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the deputy governor, who led the state government’s delegation visited Gummi, Gayari and Falale towns, among others.

The government delegation had earlier paid a sympathetic visit to the Emir of Gummi, retired Justice Lawal Hassan.

Mummuni expressed shock over the incident, describing it as extremely worrisome.

He reiterated the state government’s commitment to assist the victims, saying, ”This is very unfortunate that the disaster displaced our people rendering them home less.

“I am here to sympathise with the people of Gummi emirate over this incident. I was mandated by Governor Dauda Lawal to come here to see the level of damages caused by the disaster”, he said.

“I am going to report to the governor all that we have seen. I am assuring you that very soon the governor himself will come to sympathise with you.”

The deputy governor appealed to the flood survivors to remain calm and consider the disaster as a test from Allah.

Receiving the delegation, Hassan commended the state for the visit, adding that the people of the area were in serious need of urgent assistance from the government at all levels.

The traditional ruler urged the Zamfara Government to build an earth dam in the area in order to reduce the overflow of water to the residences.

NAN further reports that the Sole Administrator of Gummi Local Government Area, Aminu Nuhu led the delegation to the affected communities. (NAN)
