Amotekun foils seven-man bank robbers’ activities in Ondo

A seven-man gang from Delta State that came to rob three banks in Ondo state has met its Waterloo.

The Ondo State local security network, popularly called Amotekun, foiled the gang’s attempt.

This is according to Akogun Adetunji Adeleye, the Commander of the network, while parading 37 suspects arrested for various crimes.

He said the gang lodged at a house in the Irele community from where they planned to rob the three banks and kidnap a businessman in the state.

They recruited a staff of a businessman who works in a Supermarket owned by the man but the staff declined to join them.

Six members of the gang managed to flee when the bubble burst on them, but one Fatai Baami who accommodated them was arrested.

Adeleye said a manhunt has commenced for the leader of the gang in Delta State.

“The seven-man gang operatives came all the way from Sapele, Delta State, for the purpose of kidnapping, and robbery of a bank in Irele LGA.

“Six of them are at large but we were able to apprehend the mastermind who accommodated the robbers. We were equally able to get to the root of the target that they intended to kidnap.

“The manhunt for the leader who escaped to Delta State is on. We are liaising with relevant government and security authorities to assist us in apprehending this runaway gang.

“The Intel available to us shows that they intend to rob three banks and kidnap the MD of a supermarket. Investigations showed that they liaised with a staff of the supermarket who declined to join the group.”

Another gang, who stole pipelines meant for the World Bank-financed water project, was also paraded.
