Atiku mourns PDP founding member Zwingina, Niger boat victims

Former Vice President Atiku Abubakar has commiserated with the family of a founding member of opposition Peoples Democratic Party, Senator Jonathan Zwingina; as well as families of victims of the recent boat tragedy in Niger State, where over 40 persons lost their lives.

Taking to his verified X handle @atiku, he had tweeted: It is with a heavy heart that I mourn the passing of my brother and compatriot, Sen. Jonathan Silas Zwingina.

Zwingina, like every mortal, had his own shortcomings, but he was undoubtedly an advocate for democracy.

His heroic role as Director General of Chief MKO Abiola’s Hope 93 presidential bid will not be forgotten in a hurry.

As a founding member of the @OfficialPDPNig, Zwingina made immeasurable contributions to Nigeria’s democratic development.

He will be sorely missed. On behalf of my family, I wish to express my deepest condolences to his family, the PDP, and the people of Adamawa, particularly those of Adamawa South Senatorial District, which he served with distinction.

May his soul find eternal peace.

In the same vein, the politician has mourned victims of Niger State boat tragedy.

Atiku tweeted: I am profoundly heartbroken by the tragic boat disaster that unfolded late Tuesday night in the Mokwa region of Niger State, claiming the precious lives of many.

It is particularly harrowing that this calamity occurred in the shroud of night, complicating the already challenging rescue operations.

I extend my heartfelt gratitude to the dedicated local authorities and tireless volunteers who have risen to the occasion, valiantly engaging in the search and rescue efforts throughout the dark hours as first responders.

In this time of immense sorrow, I share in the grief of the bereaved families and stand in solidarity with the government and people of Niger State as they navigate this unfathomable tragedy.

To all those receiving treatment, I fervently wish for their swift recovery while offering prayers for the departed souls that they may find eternal peace.
