The incumbent Governor of Ondo State and candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Lucky Aiyedatiwa has won the Governorship Election in landslide victory.
In the official results announced by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Governor Aiyedatiwa won all the 18 local government areas of the state.
INEC State Returning Officer and Vice Chancellor, Federal University Lokoja, Professor Olayemi Durotimi Akinwunmi, who declared the result of Sunday at Akure, the State Capital said that Mr Lucky Aiyedatiwa of the APC scored a total of 366,781 votes to win the election.
The candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Festus Akingbaso, who couldn’t even win his local government garnered a total of 117,845 votes to come a distant second.
Notably, Aiyedatiwa emerged victorious in all 18 local government areas declared, including Idanre Local Government, where Festus Akingbaso, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) governorship running mate, hails from.
Aiyedatiwa’s strong performance is no surprise, given his experience as a former Deputy Governor of Ondo State and his involvement in various capacities, including serving as a federal commissioner representing Ondo State on the Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission.
The breakdown of the local government results announced are as follows:
- In Ifedore LG, APC got 14,157 to defeat PDP which polled 5,897 votes.
- In Ondo East LG, APC got 8,163, defeating PDP that garnered 2,843 votes.
- In IleOluji/OkeIgbo LG, APC, 16,600, PDP, 4 442, in Idanre LG, APC, 9,114, PDP, 8,940.
- In Irele Local Government, APC got 17,117 while PDP polled 6 601. In Akoko South West, APC got 29,700 to defeat PDP which garnered 5,517.
- The result from Owo Local Government Area indicated that APC polled 31,914 to defeat PDP which garnered 4,740.
- In Ondo West LG, APC polled 20,755, while PDP got 6,387 votes.
- In Akoko South East LG, APC polled 12,140, while PDP got 2,692 votes.
- In Akoko North West, APC won with 25,010, as PDP got 5,502.
APC also won Ose LG with a total of 16,555, while PDP got 4,472. In Akure South LGA, APC polled 32,969 votes against PDP’s 17,926.
In Akoko North East, APC won with 25,657 votes against the PDP’s 5072.
Akure North LGA, APC won with a total of 14,451 votes while PDP scored 5,787.
In Okitipupa LGA, APC won with 26,811 votes while PDP garnered 10,233 votes.
In Akure South, APC came victorious securing 32,969 votes while PDP, the closest scored 17,926 votes.
In Ose LGA, APC won with 16,555 votes while PDP garnered 4,472.
In Ese Odo LGA: APC scored 14,511 votes while PDP garnered 7,814 votes.
In Ilaje LGA, APC pulled a total of 24,474 votes while PDP scored a total of 3,632 votes.
In Odigbo LGA, the APC scored a total of 26,683 votes to defeat the PDP which scored a total of 9,348 votes.
Declaring the results Prof. Akinwumi, announced that put of the 2,051,135 total registered voters in Ondo State, a total of 510,855 voters were accredited during the election.

Notably, Aiyedatiwa emerged victorious in all 15 local government areas declared so far, including Idanre Local Government, where Festus Akingbaso, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) governorship running mate, hails from.
Aiyedatiwa’s strong performance is no surprise, given his experience as a former Deputy Governor of Ondo State and his involvement in various capacities, including serving as a federal commissioner representing Ondo State on the Board of the Niger Delta Development Commission.
According to the results declared earlier on, the PDP candidate is coming a distant second in all the local government areas except in Idanre LG where the APC candidate is leading with a small margin of 174 votes.
With remaining three local government areas to declare the winner of the Governorship Election, the incumbent Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa is set to emerge victorious in the Saturday’s election.

Meanwhile, Prof. Olayemi Akinwumi, the State Returning Officer and Vice Chancellor of the Federal University, Lokoja, Kogi State, has announced that the collation exercise will resume at noon on Sunday.
The remaining results of the last three local government areas – Ilaje, Ese Odo and Odigbo, would be released when collation resumes and final result announced.
