Christians celebrate Good Friday, reenact Passion of Christ

Faithful of the Catholic Church on Friday reenacted the Passion of Christ, rekindling hope in the redemption of mankind.

The faithful, during the Station of the Cross to mark Good Friday, acted out the sufferings, judgment, condemnation and persecution of Jesus Christ on the cross, to rekindle His redemption in people.

The station of the cross event that began at noon was being done same time across the globe .

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the event, carried out on the 39th day of the Lenten season, reminds faithful of Christ’s love for man.

It highlights the route He passed through before being crowned “The King of Kings” that should be emulated.

At the Holy Spirit Church, Onireke, Ojo, Lagos, faithful defied the scorching sun in a procession from the Ojo Barracks Bus Stop to the church, professing Jesus Christ.

The procession, that caused human and vehicular traffic in the ever-busy Barracks-Onireke-Tedi road had faithful engaging in recitals and prayers in accordance with the 14 stages of the passion of Christ as enshrined in the worship book.

It was spiced up with sober hymns, with faithful kneeling down along the road at intervals.

The procession, on reaching the church, dovetailed into devotional prayers to saints, while the parish Priest Rev. Fr. Dennis Emena, asked people to emulate Jesus Christ in their daily living.

According to him Jesus’ death on the cross paved way for God’s reconciliation with mankind.

“It is a selfless service worthy of emulation by faithful, if we must make our society a better place.

“God Himself has set a standard through which we can access grace with God the son paying the price.

“We should work hard to become heirs to the kingdom,” he said.

At the nearby Saints Peter and Paul Parish, the scene was similar, as faithful flocked to participate in the ritual.(NAN)
