Miss Mmesoma Ejikeme, the student of Anglican Girls Secondary School, Nnewi, who was accused of altering her 2023 UTME result to claim the highest score, has found a new benefactor in the person of Prof. Ngozi Chuma-Udeh, the Anambra State Commissioner for Education.
Prof. Chuma-Udeh announced that she has taken Mmesoma under her care and will sponsor her education. She said she was moved by compassion to help Mmesoma achieve her life goals.
Mmesoma became a subject of controversy in Nigeria when JAMB revealed that she inflated her UTME score from 249 to 362, and falsely presented herself as the best candidate for 2023.
JAMB imposed a three-year ban on Mmesoma as a punitive measure after conducting an investigation into her case.
It was Chuma-Udeh who summoned Mmesoma to her office during the height of the scandal and later handed her over to the DSS for interrogation.
However, while receiving an award in her office, Chuma-Udeh explained that she has forgiven Mmesoma and decided to adopt her as one of her children.
She said: “I have been adopting children and training them through schools even before I became a commissioner.
“Mmesoma is doing very well and she is still undergoing a psychotherapy session with the state-appointed psychotherapist.
“I chose to adopt her to help her realize her dreams. She is a human being, so we cannot discard her like that.
“We are not going to abandon her. We are still appealing to JAMB to reconsider its decision regarding her.
“Governor Chukwuma Soludo cares deeply about every citizen in Anambra State and so, we will support her through her education.”
