In a significant move to curb the rising issue of drug abuse among young individuals, the Delta State Drug Control Committee has successfully inaugurated and reactivated Drug-Free Clubs in more than 20 secondary schools across the state.
During the inauguration ceremony, Assistant State Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Omobhude Silas, took the students on an enlightening journey through an exhibition and a compelling lecture. Silas emphatically advised the attendees to adamantly reject drug abuse and underscored the importance of obtaining prescriptions before any drug usage.
Highlighting the urgency of early intervention, Omobhude emphasized that addressing students at a young age is crucial, given the alarming observation that drug abuse knows no age limits.
Adding his perspective to the event, Fynecountry Goodluck, a Member of the State Drug Control Committee (SDCC) and Procurement Officer at the State Agency for the Control of HIV/AIDS (SACA), stressed the paramount need for sensitization. Goodluck went on to provide valuable counsel to students, urging them to resist peer pressure and make informed decisions regarding their well-being.
