Delta chief judge embarks on quarterly custodial centre visits

The Delta State Chief Judge, Theresa Diai, says she is embarking on the quarterly custodial centre visits starting from Tuesday and lasting till Nov 24th.

The purpose of the visits is to to alleviate prison overcrowding, a Press statement announcing the CJ’s activities states.

A Press release issued by the Chief Registrar, Okodiya Onoriose, says Her Lordship is scheduled to commence her fourth quarter visit to custodial centers in the state for the year 2023.

“The initiative aims to address prison congestion and extend pardons to eligible offenders,” the release states.

The visit kicked off on Tuesday, October 7th, starting with the Warri Custodial Centre. The two-day visit to the facility focused on efforts to decongest prisons and grant clemency to qualified individuals.

The comprehensive tour underscores the Chief Judge’s commitment to the humane administration of justice and the alleviation of prison overcrowding, reflecting the ongoing efforts to foster a fair and efficient judicial system in Delta State.
