Residents of Ibusa community in Delta state are celebrating the inauguration of a long-awaited pipe-borne water supply, which took place on January 30.
Provided by the Ministry of Water Resources under Sheriff Oborevwori’s leadership, this marks the end of years of water scarcity in the area.
Expressing gratitude for this essential service, the community had previously relied on rainwater collection or purchased water from carriers during a prolonged period of dryness. Many view this initiative as a cost-saving measure and a positive transformation in their daily lives.
Commissioner for Water Resources, Isaac Tosan Wilkie, and other officials conducted an inspection of strategically placed tap installations within the community.
General Manager Okonosa Ridenedu reported that over a hundred houses have already benefited, with plans to extend connections to more households.
While acknowledging the positive impact, some residents raised concerns about the long-term sustainability of the project.
Commissioner Pat Ajudua commended Governor Sheriff Oborevwori for addressing this basic need and assured the community of ongoing efforts to sustain the water supply.
Wilkie urged the community to adopt a responsible maintenance culture to protect the newly installed taps from potential vandalism, ensuring the longevity of this vital resource.
