A 29-year- old driver, Suleiman Rabiu from Gombe State, has reportedly trekked over 700km in appreciation of the Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Gwabin Musa’s leadership qualities and style.
A statement by the Acting Director of Defence information, Brig-Gen. Tukur Gusau, said Suleiman left Gombe on 12 February, 2024 and arrived Abuja on 28 February, 2024 after spending 16 days on the road and despite the unfriendly weather conditions.
According to the statement, the young man said he embarked on the journey to show his appreciation for the admirable leadership qualities of the CDS.
Suleiman reportedly reiterated that security of lives and property had greatly improved since the assumption of office by General CG Musa; and that the people-centric philosophy of leadership of the CDS was what motivated him to identify with the Armed Forces Chief.
Speaking further, Suleiman said he braced all odds to start the journey to Abuja to appreciate and commend the CDS for the excellent and exemplary leadership leading to successes recorded in various theaters of operations across the country.
He maintained that his action was a testimony to the improved security enjoyed in the country; adding that, before now, it is almost impossible to have embarked on such a journey without encountering any hazard occasioned by insecurity in the North East.
Suleiman was received on behalf of CDS by the Acting Director, Defence information, Brig-Gen Tukur Gusau, the Assistant Director at Defence Headquarters Provost, and the Special Assistant to the CDS Alhaji Hussaini.
Brig-Gen Gusau, while receiving the young man, thanked him for identifying with the Military, particularly, the Chief of Defence Staff. He assured the adventurer of the CDS continued dedication and commitment to ensuring maximum security in the country.
He reminded the trekker that the Armed Forces under the leadership of Gen Musa is people-centric and is committed to defending the tenets of democracy and ensuring the sustenance of Mr. President Renewed Hope agenda for the country.
