EEDC confirms power failure as national grid collapses again

The Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (EEDC) has announced a general system collapse affecting its entire network in the South East region of Nigeria.

This means that customers in Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo states are currently experiencing a loss of power supply.

According to Emeka Ezeh, EEDC’s Head of Corporate Communications, in a statement issued on Monday evening, the system collapse occurred at 18:48 hours on October 14, 2024.

Unfortunately, this isn’t the first time the region has experienced power disruptions. Earlier in April, a similar system collapse occurred, leaving many without electricity.

The EEDC has apologised for the inconvenience and is working to resolve the issue. In the past, they’ve mentioned that they’re in constant communication with the relevant authorities, including the National Control Centre (NCC), to ensure a swift restoration of power supply.

The statement partly read: “Consequently, due to this development, all our interface Transmission Company of Nigeria (TCN) stations are out of supply, and we are unable to provide services to our customers in Abia, Anambra, Ebonyi, Enugu, and Imo States.

“We are on standby awaiting detailed information of the collapse and restoration of supply from the National Control Centre (NCC), Osogbo,” the statement noted.
