The former Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Dr. Ogbonnaya Onu, is dead.
Onu, who was the first Civilian Governor of Abia State, passed on in the early hours of today (Thursday) at an Abuja hospital.
Although, his family was yet to release official announcement, close family sources told our reporter that the Uburu born Ebonyi citizen died on Thursday morning.
“Yes, Dr Ogbonnaya Onu is dead. He died this morning in Abuja Hospital but its left for the family to officially announce his demise.
“Actually, he has been sick and the family was planning to fly him to United States after this Sallah, but unfortunately he didn’t make it. That’s the ways of man.”
Dr. Onu, born on December 1, 1951, in Ohaozara, had been a prominent figure in Nigerian politics, serving in various capacities including as Minister under the government of President Muhammadu Buhari.
His tenure as Minister witnessed significant strides in the fields of science, technology, and innovation.
Having been appointed by President Buhari, Dr. Onu played a crucial role in shaping Nigeria’s policies and advancements in the realm of science and technology.
His contributions have left a lasting impact on the nation.
Before his appointment as Minister, he was the Chairman of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) which later merged with other parties to form All Progressives Congress (APC).
