Fertility-challenged persons have hope with us -MART physician

Fertility-challenged people have been urged not to give up on exploring available options for having babies, as there are diverse medical services available to assist them in becoming parents.

Moreover, such services are readily available in Nigeria, and the foremost firm providing the services has become a medical tourism hub.

Speaking on the available services to help couples build their family, the Medical Director of Medical Art Center, Dr. Mojisola Aderonmu, said information is power, information is knowledge and the solution to infertility could be as simple as getting viable information.

“For instance, treating sexually transmitted diseases (STDs) promptly and effectively could prevent issues with reproduction, whereas neglecting the same could be disastrous. And that is why in the last 30 years of Medical Art Center, we stop at nothing in investigating causes of infertility in clients, and we have over 3,000 live babies delivered in Nigeria and beyond, and we are still counting,” stated Aderonmu.

Continuing, she said, “We deploy our expertise over the decades to provide top-notch services to people, which is a template inherited from Prof. Oladapo Ashiru, who pioneered a significant milestone in Nigeria’s fertility medicine with his groundbreaking efforts in IVF-ET, starting in 1984, which led to the first successful test tube birth in 1986 with GIFT, and again in 1989 with IVF-ET. These have impacted the field of fertility medicine in West Africa and Nigeria.”

Aderonmu explained that ART (Assisted Reproductive Technology) has been an immense joy for families, as over 3,000 live babies have been born through the service; adding, “These technologies include IVF-ET, ICSI, TESA, fertility preservation with frozen sperm and eggs, gestational surrogacy, and PGT, all of which have brought hope and happiness to many families.

“We also pioneered pre-implantation genetics testing for sickle cell carrier couples since 2010, aiding over 100 families.”

Dr. Aderonmu said Medical Art Center does not treat symptoms but tackles issues from the roots, “and that is why Mart Life Detox Clinic, Africa’s first modern Mayr medicine center, was established, and over 1,000 individuals have received assistance for various health issues, including arthritis, diabetes, preconception cleansing, repeated IVF failure, and overall well-being.

“We expanded and established MART Medicare for high-risk obstetrics care and neonatal intensive care units in 2014, facilitating the delivery of hundreds of babies, and providing support for neonatal deliveries from 24 weeks’ gestation”.

The medical facility says it has also enhanced indigenous medical tourism, boosting the country’s forex generation as “we do offer services to individuals in Nigeria, West Africa, Europe, and North America, serving as a hub for medical tourism.”

Dr. Aderonmu said the facility practices knowledge transfer, with the aim of expanding frontiers in fertility medicine, noting that, “In 2003, we took a significant step towards the future of fertility medicine by initiating the Institute of Assisted Reproductive Technology to train clinical embryologists. This initiative is a testament to our commitment to advancing the field and ensuring a bright future for fertility medicine.”

She said that under the initiative, MART has trained numerous IVF physicians and reproductive endocrinologists, and has mentored over 20 professors in reproductive endocrinology and cell biology.

On affordability and acceptability, Dr. Aderonmu said the organization is collaborating with national and international non-governmental organizations and foundations, including the MERCK Foundation Campaign, “serving as a testament to our commitment to combating the stigma associated with infertility.”
