At least four people have been confirmed killed on Sunday night when suspected Fulani herdsmen invaded Nimbo community in Uzo-Uwani Local Government Area of Enugu State.
Many people were also reported to have been wounded, and scores missing.
This attack is coming eight years after the April 25, 2016 massacre by Fulani herdsmen in the same community.
Among the victims of the latest attack are: Okeh Simon Ugwu, Oruku Okeh Chukwuebuka, Julius Ogbonna Odiegwu and Gabriel Ugwor Ezea.
Residents of the community, who spoke to our reporter, revealed that herders wielding AK-47 rifles entered into the community undetected and started shooting at anything insight.
According to some fleeing residents who spoke to our reporter, the herdsmen invaded the community late Sunday night and attacked mourners at Ugwuijoro Nimbo village, killing four persons instantly.
One one the residents, Okeh Sampson, said corpses of the four slain individuals had been recovered and the community has formed search parties for so many people that are currently missing.
According to him, about seven seriously injured persons have been moved to hospitals in Nsukka town.
Meanwhile, the Enugu State Police Command has confirmed the attack but had yet to provide details.
The Command’s spokesperson DSP Daniel Ndukwe, who spoke to our reporter, said he is working on a Press release on the incident.
