After four days of anguish and uncertainty, seven students of the Federal University of Lafia (FULAFIA) in Nasarawa State finally reunited with their friends and families on Sunday.
They were among the victims of a brazen kidnapping operation that targeted their off-campus residence in Gandu community last Wednesday night, December 6.
The students, who were held captive by unknown gunmen, were freed thanks to the joint intervention of the military and other security agencies. The Student Representative Council President, Ibrahim Ogabo, expressed his relief and gratitude in a phone interview with Channels Television on Monday. He said the students, three females and four males, were undergoing medical check-ups at the school’s clinic and were in stable condition.
The kidnapping incident sparked outrage and demonstrations by FULAFIA students, who called on the authorities to ensure the safe return of their colleagues and improve the security situation in the area. The students also appealed to the government and the university management to provide adequate accommodation and protection for them on campus.
