Social media influencer Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as VeryDarkMan, has opened up about the ongoing saga involving the family of ailing actor John Okafor, better known as Mr. Ibu.
Mr. Ibu, who is suffering from some health issues, has been receiving donations from well-wishers and fans for his medical treatment. However, his wife Stella Maris recently accused his adopted daughter Jasmine and the actor’s sons of stealing N300 million from the funds, leading to their arrest by the police at Alagbon station in Lagos.
VeryDarkMan, who has been one of the key figures in raising awareness and soliciting support for Mr. Ibu’s health condition, has shared his own side of the story in an Instagram video.
In the video, he expressed his shock and disbelief that the donations had reached such a huge amount, without the family informing the public or him. He wondered why the family continued to accept money from people, while hiding the fact that they had already amassed over half a billion naira for Mr. Ibu’s treatment.
He also questioned the credibility of the allegations made by Stella, and the motive behind the arrest of Jasmine and the others. He said he had visited Mr. Ibu at the hospital several times, and had never seen any sign of fraud or embezzlement by Jasmine, who he described as a caring and devoted daughter.
He urged his followers to stop donating money for Mr. Ibu, saying that the amount already raised should be more than enough to cover his medical expenses. He warned them not to fall prey to the family’s greed and selfishness, and to be careful of who they trust with their money.
He also announced that he would not use his platform to raise funds for anyone for now, until he was sure of the transparency and accountability of the process. He said he was disappointed and hurt by the turn of events, and hoped that Mr. Ibu would recover soon.
