Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, first female Minister of State for Police Affairs

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim Minister of State, Police Affairs. By this appointment, she becomes the first female to hold the position in Nigeria.

The Plateau-born politician was also the former Director-General of the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons, NAPTIP.

Here are a few things to know about the junior minister:

Although Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim was born in Jos, Plateau State, she hails from Keffi, Nasarawa State; and is the second of her parents’ eight children.

She spent most of her childhood in Abuja, where she attended Aruwa Nursery School, Abuja; and Jabi Primary School, (now LEA Primary School, Jabi), for her nursery and primary school education.

By the time she was 21, she was already a holder of two Master’s degrees, having graduated from the University of Abuja at 19 with a degree in Sociology. She then obtained MBA and MA from Webster University, St Louis, Missouri (London Campus).

Imaan did her National Youth Service at NNPC in the Kaduna Zonal Office. She is currently working on her Doctoral Security and Strategic Studies programme at the Nigeria Defence Academy.

Imaan started her career working at Abuja Geographic Information Systems, AGIS. The AGIS task includes the introduction of SDI (Spatial Data Infrastructure) for FCT, and the computerization of spatially related workflows in certain Federal Capital Development Agency departments and agencies.

She is a co-Founder/President of The Beehive Initiative, now the BumbleeBee Civic Initiative, a platform focused on nurturing and mentoring politically inclined women and creating grassroots civic awareness.

She also worked as a senior sales director at Mary Kay, a cosmetics and skin-care company.

In June 2021, she became the Federal Commissioner at the National Commission For Refugees Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons Office.

She also served as a special adviser on strategic communication to then Minister of State for Education, Chukwuemeka Nwajiuba; and she was appointed a member of the Nasarawa State Economic Advisory Council by the Governor of Nasarawa State Abdullahi Sule in September 2019.

Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim is married and has three children.
