Former Super Falcons striker, Desire Oparanozie, has appealed to owners of clubs participating in the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL) to prioritize the financial well-being of their players.
According to her, adequate compensation for players is pivotal to nurturing young talents and elevating the standard of the women’s league.
Oparanozie, who spoke recently after retiring from both the national team and club football, submits that when NWFL clubs offer attractive wages and ensure timely payments of their players, it can have transformative impact on their careers and overall performance.
She emphasized that well-compensated players can fully concentrate on their game without being burdened by external concerns, ultimately allowing them to unleash their true potential.
The former Wuhan Jianghan University of China FC striker firmly asserts that improving player welfare will not only serve as motivation for young girls to pursue football as a career but will also elevate the overall standard of the league.
She called on football administrators to continue to organize grassroots football championships across Nigeria; describing such initiatives as vital for identifying and nurturing emerging female talents as well as key to discovering and developing future stars in women’s football.
As Desire Oparanozie embarks on the next chapter of her life after retiring from professional football, she expressed her deep gratitude to her fans, family, friends, coaches, and teammates who supported her throughout her illustrious career.
