A 60-year-old woman (name withheld) was allegedly raped by a 52-year-old man, Friday Igberase, on her farm in Uromi, Esan North East Local Government Area of Edo State.
The suspect was apprehended by the Uromi division of the Edo State Police Command, following a report by the victim.
The victim told the police that the suspect assaulted her sexually on her farm in July and threatened to kill her if she revealed it to anyone.
“The victim also alleged that since the rape incident, she has been suffering from strange sickness.”
The Commissioner of Police, Muhammed Dankwara, said the victim was taken to the hospital for medical attention and the suspect confessed to the crime.
He said the matter had been moved to the Gender Unit of the State Criminal Investigation Department (CIB), Benin.
He also said that another rape suspect, David Orji, who allegedly raped one Favour Osarriemen, at New Benin area of Benin has been nabbed by the police.
