As a prominent figure in Nollywood, Joke Silva has not only graced the silver screen but has tackled life’s challenges with remarkable resilience, emerging a beacon of strength and grace in the face of adversity.

Roots and family legacy
Joke Silva’s upbringing is rooted in a family intellect and prominence which laid the foundation for her future endeavours. She hails from a Saro/Amaro family and is the daughter of Chief Emmanuel Afolabi and Dr. Abimbola Silva, born on September 29, 1961, in Lagos, Nigeria.

Educational journey
Attending Holy Child College in Lagos and later studying at the University of Lagos, Joke Silva faced opposition from her parents about pursuing a career in theatre. However, her determination led her to the Webber Douglas Academy of Dramatic Art in London, shaping her into the versatile actress and director she has become today.

Rising star and philanthropist
Joke Silva embarked on her acting career during the early 1990s, initially facing resistance from her parents. Overcoming hurdles, she gained recognition and studied drama in London. Her journey wasn’t smooth, but her passion for acting prevailed.

Her multifaceted career
Together with her husband, Olu Jacobs, she established the Lufodo Group encompassing Lufodo Productions, Lufodo Consult, and Lufodo Distribution. At the Lufodo Academy of Performing Arts, she directs studies, nurturing to the growth of aspiring talents.

National recognitionn 
Beyond her acting prowess, Joke Silva is a humanitarian and an advocate for women’s empowerment. She received the national honour as a Member of the Order the Federal Republic in 2014. Additionally, she serves as a brand ambassador for American International Insurance Company (AIICO) Limited Pension Managers Limited.

Business ventures and leadership
Not limited to acting, Joke Silva was the first managing director of Malete Film Village and curated for the Bank of Industry (BOI). Her leadership extends beyond the screen, showcasing her versatile skills in business and arts management.

A love beyond health
A woman battling the challenges of love and loss, Joke Silva’s enduring love for her husband, Olu Jacobs, has been tested by his battle with dementia. Despite the changes in his health, she remains steadfast, cherishing the memories of the incredible father and husband he once was.

With boldness and grace, she, with her husband, Olu, faced the heartbreaking loss of their daughter, Dayo Silva, in 1997. Yet, they both keep the details surrounding her death private, highlighting the family’s resilience in the face of tragedy.

Embracing motherhood and family
The Jacob’s family is enriched with Olusoji, Dayo [deceased] and Olugbenga. As a dutiful wife, she, in unison with her husband, got their first son, Olusoji, to pursue his education in the United States of America (USA), where he got married. The second child, Olugbenga, recently graduated from the American University of Nigeria (AUN).
