The popular Mile 12 International and Owode Onirin markets along Ikorodu road in Lagos State have been sealed for contravening the environmental laws consistently.
The Lagos state government carried out the sealing.
The markets were sealed by the Lagos State Waste Management Authority (LAWMA) and the Kick Against Indiscipline (KAI), because of the traders’ refusal to comply with the regulatory guidelines.
Senior Special Assistant on New Media to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Jubril Gawat on his X (Twitter) handle confirmed the development, adding that the two state agencies acted on the directives of the Commissioner for Environment, Tokunbo Wahab.
According to Gawat, enforcement operatives from LAWMA and KAI in a joint operation in the early hours of Friday [today] sealed up the Mile 12 International Market and Owode Onirin market along Ikorodu Road in Kosofe LG for indiscriminate dumping and burning of refuse, filthy environment, blocked and overflowing drainage systems, menace of illegal and indiscriminate parking and abandonment of trucks on the major road, thereby impeding free flow of traffic.
