Lagosians rattled as Ajah Market goes up in flames

The popular Ajah market near Alesh Bus Stop in Lekki area of Lagos State has been razed by an evening fire outbreak.

The fire outbreak which began around 9 pm on Sunday destroyed goods valued to be worth millions of naira and engulfed several shops and stores filled with combustible materials.

Permanent Secretary of Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr. Femi Oke-Osanyintolu confirmed the incident in a statement.

Oke-Osanyintolu noted that the agency in collaboration with Lagos State Fire and Rescue Services responded swiftly to contain the fire.

The cause of the fire outbreak was still unknown at the time of filing this report.

No casualties or injuries were recorded, as traders were absent due to the market being closed on Sunday.

He added, “The LASEMA Response Team, in collaboration with the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, successfully contained the fire, preventing it from spreading to adjacent structures.”

“Efforts are currently underway to fully extinguish the fire and recover any remaining valuables.”
