Vice-Chancellor of the Lagos State University [LASU], Prof. Ibiyemi Olatunji-Bello, has won the Nelson Mandela Leadership Prize for Integrity and Transparency Pan-African Amazon of Nation Building, conferred on her by an African Youth organisation, Stay Africa Youth Development Initiative (SAYDI-AFRICA).
The prize was presented to her yesterday by the President of SAYDI-AFRICA, Hon. Dominic Mensah, who was joined by the Nigeria representative, Com. Albert Sayei, and other officials of the group.
According to Mensah, the award was presented in recognition of the VC’s selfless and transformative leadership at LASU, which is providing the right direction for youths across the country and Africa.
The group urged the vice chancellor to remain the icon of integrity and leadership that she is, saying that the youths see her as a model whom they can emulate as they ascend leadership positions in the future.
Responding, Professor Olatunji-Bello thanked the group for recognising her with such honour. “It shows that people are watching. We are just doing our bits, not knowing that some people are taking note,” she said.
