The Minister of Women Affairs, Uju Ohaneye, has been accused of threatening and intimidating some female Law students of the University of Calabar, who had reported a case of sexual harassment by their former dean, Prof Cyril Ndifon.
The minister’s voice was allegedly recorded in a leaked audio clip that has gone viral, where she warned the students not to lie or they would face prosecution and imprisonment.
The students had earlier petitioned and protested against Ndifon, who had denied the allegations.
A panel was set up by the university to investigate the matter.
The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Florence Bisong, expressed her dismay at the minister’s interference and urged her to respect the ongoing investigation.
She also praised the students for their bravery and said the university was committed to creating a safe and conducive environment for women in academia.
