Man attempts smuggling 12 nylon bags of marijuana into Kano correctional facility

A 52-year-old man, Hamisu Mamuda, who attempted to smuggle 12 nylon bags of dried leaves suspected to be hemp into Kurmawa Correctional Centre, has been arrested.

The Kano State Police Command’s Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna, confirmed the arrest of the suspect in a statement on Monday.

According to Haruna, the suspect, who is a resident of Samegu Quarters, Kumbotso Local Government Area, was apprehended by personnel of the Correctional Centre on Saturday.

The statement reads in part, “On 27th April 2024, personnel of the Nigeria Correctional Service attached to Kurmawa Correctional Centre arrested one Hamisu Mamuda of Samegu Quarters, Kumbotso LGA, Kano State in possession of twelve (12) Nylon bags of Dried Leaves Suspected to be Indian Hemp wrapped in his jacket in an attempt to smuggle it into the Correctional Centre with intent to sell it to inmates.

“The suspect also confessed to the crime and is currently cooling his feet at the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) for discreet investigation.”
