A Federal High Court in Lagos, on Tuesday, sentenced a 40-year-old man, Noah Oke, to three-year imprisonment for illegal possession of Cannabis Sativa.
The court, however, gave him an option of N1m fine.
He was prosecuted by the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
The defendant was arraigned before Justice Lewis Allagoa on a one-count charge of drug trafficking and he pleaded guilty.
After his plea, the court reviewed the facts of the case with counsel to NDLEA), Mr. Aondofa Korinjo, tendering exhibits which were admitted by the court.
Korinjo then urged the court to convict the defendant based on his plea and evidence adduced by prosecution.
The judge found the defendant guilty as charged and sentenced him.
According to the charge. the convict committed the offence on Aug. 21, at the Seme area of Lagos State.
NDLEA said that he illegally possessed a kilogramme of Cannabis Sativa, a restricted drug in contravention of Section 11(c) of the NDLEA Act of 2004. (NAN)
