A five-storey building under construction has collapsed at Basden Street, Fegge, in the commercial city of Onitsha, Anambra State.
Reports suggest a yet-to-be-identified number of persons may have been trapped under the rubble.
The building collapsed in the early hours of Sunday while some of the construction workers were on the last floor, according to sources. It was designed to serve commercial purposes on completion.
An excavator has quickly been deployed to the site to begin the evacuation of rubbles and possible rescue operations of trapped victims.
The cause of the incident is yet to be disclosed, however as of the time of filing this report on Sunday, a source near the area revealed one person has been rescued as rescue operations continue at the site.
State police spokesman, DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, could not be reached for confirmation, as details of the incident remain uncertain.
