A man has sued a hospital in Delta State for allegedly causing the death of his wife by leaving cotton wool in her abdomen after a failed appendectomy.
The man claims that his wife was diagnosed with appendicitis and was operated on by a team of doctors led by one Dr. Ebom Totibo, who later told him that they could not remove the diseased appendix because it was covered by her intestines.
The man says that his wife’s condition worsened after the surgery and an MRI scan revealed that there was a huge cotton wool left inside her abdomen.
The man has also petitioned the hospital and the state government for professional negligence and is seeking justice in court.
The hospital’s MD has declined to comment on the matter and referred it to the health ministry.
