Namibian President Hage Geingob dies in office at 82

President Hage Geingob, Namibia’s third president, has reportedly passed away at a hospital in Windhoek.

The news was announced in the early hours of Sunday on Vice President Nangolo Mbumba’s official X account.

It was reported that President Hage Geingob passed away today at the age of 82.

Vice President Mbumba mentioned, “By his side was his wife and his dear children.”

Last month, the office of the president informed the Namibian public about President Hage’s biopsy results, which revealed the presence of cancerous cells. Meanwhile, on the 24th of January 2024, the president’s official X page also announced that he was to travel to the USA for treatment.

Sadly, he reportedly died while undergoing cancer treatment at Lady Pohamba Hospital in Windhoek.

Acting President Nangolo Mbumba also stated that “Cabinet will convene with immediate effect to make the necessary state arrangements in this regard.”

Dr. Geingob was elected as president in 2015 and was supposed to complete his second term in office this year.
