Nollywood actor Amaechi Muonagor passes on at 61

Renowned Nollywood actor Amaechi Muonagor has reportedly passed away following a long battle with kidney disease.

The news was brought to light by Morris Monye, a prominent Nigerian social commentator and community leader, who made the announcement Sunday via his X handle.

It is worth recalling that some days ago, videos of Amaechi Muonagor appealing for financial assistance circulated widely on social media.

He was said to have battled kidney failure, and was undergoing dialysis treatments regularly.

In the viral video, he sought financial aid to facilitate a much-needed kidney transplant. He succumbed to his condition while the fundraising efforts were ongoing.

Muonagor, born on August 20, 1962, in Obosi, Anambra State, Nigeria, was an immensely gifted actor, producer, and comedian.

Throughout his career, Muonagor made significant contributions to the Nigerian movie industry.

His filmography boasts remarkable works such as the iconic movie “Taboo 1” (1989), alongside his memorable roles in productions like “Aki and Pawpaw,” “Karishika” (1998), “Aki na Ukwa” (2002), and “Igodo” (1999).

His remarkable talent earned him a nomination for the prestigious 2017 Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, where he stood out as one of the finest actors of his time.

According to Morris, “He was a talented Nollywood actor whose presence on our screens was truly masterful.

“We watched with concern as he battled health issues, offering whatever support we could to help him seek treatment in India.

“This tragic loss highlights the need for better healthcare in our country.”

Amaechi Muonagor reportedly died Sunday, March 24, 2024 at the age of 61.
