Ogun Commissioner seeks quick justice for victims of gender-based violence

The Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Adijat Adeleye, has appealed to the Ogun State Chief Judge, Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu, for expedited justice for victims of Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV).

During her visit to the Chief Judge’s office, Adeleye emphasized the importance of swift justice in cases of sexual assault to deter antisocial behaviors effectively.

Acknowledging the judiciary’s pivotal role in upholding the law and protecting constitutional rights, Adeleye commended the Chief Judge for the state’s judicial services and sought prompt attention to SGBV cases and family matters, while also advocating for thoroughness in the adoption process.

In response, the Chief Judge, Justice Mosunmola Dipeolu reaffirmed the judiciary’s commitment to providing legal aid and support to safeguard individual rights and uphold equitable enforcement of the law to combat societal vices.

Addressing delays in SGBV and family cases, Justice Dipeolu urged Social Welfare Officers to fulfill their duties diligently and educate stakeholders on supporting survivors during court proceedings, emphasizing the importance of this support in ensuring justice for victims.

Regarding child adoption cases, Justice Dipeolu stressed the need for thoroughness and diligence in both judicial and ministry processes to ensure the safety and welfare of the children involved.
