Okere community women seek council chairman’s intervention amidst youth leadership tussle

In light of escalating tensions surrounding the youth leadership dispute in Okere community, the daughters and wives of Okere, located in the Warri South Council Area, visited Council Chairman Dr. Michael Tidi on Friday, urgently appealing for his intervention to restore peace to the community.

During their courtesy visit at the Warri South Council Lodge, Mrs. Andlin Epia and Rita Esu Kwasu, representing the women, expressed their concerns to Chairman Tidi. They emphasized that as mothers, they can no longer stand idly by while their children and husbands become adversaries due to leadership positions.

The women conveyed their distress over witnessing the community transform into a conflict zone, where familial bonds have deteriorated. They implored Chairman Tidi to utilize his position to bring back unity and peace to the once tranquil Okere community.

“We came here because our community is going down. We need peace and unity back in our community. Our husbands and children are becoming enemies, and the community is no longer safe. If you leave the community like this, we are afraid that peace will be far from us,” the women asserted.

In response, Chairman Tidi expressed gratitude for the women’s concerns and assured them that measures have been put in place to facilitate lasting peace in Okere community. He acknowledged the women’s compassionate stance on the community’s plight, highlighting the pivotal role women play in peace-building.

Tidi urged the women to return home and engage their husbands and children in conversations promoting reconciliation for the prosperity of Okere community. While emphasizing his administration’s commitment to reuniting the community, he emphasized the need for collective efforts.

“History has shown us that women play a significant role in nation-building and influence decisions. Your visit here reflects your compassion for what is happening in the community. Go back home, talk to your people, and tell those who should not cause problems to stay in their lane. We will do our best, and with collective effort, we will make a difference,” Tidi concluded.
