Ondo 2024: Aiyedatiwa, SDP candidate cast votes, commend electorate

Gov. Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State, the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), cast his vote at Polling Unit 5 (Obenla), Ward IV, Ilaje Local Government Area, at 8:52a.m on Saturday.

Speaking with newsmen after casting his vote, Aiyesatiwa commended the election process in the Polling Unit.

The governor, who appreciated security agencies for maintaining law and order, commended the electorate for organising themselves in a peaceful manner.

He also praised INEC for making the process seamless, saying, “I passed through all the process and it is okay.

“The turnout is encouraging, and I want to believe that the situation will be the same in other locations in the state. It has been peaceful here, I want to believe it will be peaceful in other locations.

“I want to commend the security agencies. They are heavily deployed to prevent any ugly situation and I believe people will support themselves, we are peaceful people.

“Ondo State has been adjudged as one of the most peaceful states in Nigeria. We have been having our elections in a peaceful environment and this very one will not be different,” Aiyesatiwa said.

While urging INEC to ensure that the process continue to be free, fair and credible, Aiyedatiwa commended the large voters’ turnout in the Unit.

Also, in Okitipupa, governorship candidate of Social Democratic Party (SDP), Otunba Bamidele Akingboye, says he expects nothing short of credible election in the ongoing governorship poll in Ondo state.

Akingboye made the remark on Saturday after casting his vote at exactly 9:00 a.m. at Unit 10, Ward 2, Okitipupa area, Ondo state

He, therefore, tasked the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and other stakeholders in the electoral process to ensure conduct of credible election.

Akingboye said if the process is credible, he would accept the outcome of the election even he did not emerge winner

“I am optimistic to win so as to deliver my people from hunger and poverty. This is one of the reasons why I worked very hard to get the ticket of SDP,” he said.

The candidate commended INEC for punctuality at the voting unit, dedication to duty and deployment of Bimodal Voters Accreditation System (BVAS).

He lauded the security agents for beefing up security around all polling units for safety of INEC staffers and voters

Akingboye also commended the turnout of voters, assuring that more people would still come out to exercise their franchise.(NAN)
