Governor of Ondo State, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has approved the payment of bursaries and scholarships to students of Ondo State origin in tertiary institutions and the Nigerian Law Schools.
The governor, who disclosed this while addressing a stakeholders meeting held at the Cocoa Conference Hall of the Governor’s Office in Akure, said the process for the payment of the bursaries and scholarships had begun, and would be completed in a few weeks to begin disbursement.
Stakeholders at the meeting include leaders of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS), National Association of University Students (NAUS), National Association of Ondo State Students (NAOSS), National Female Students Association and indigenous student associations in the state.
Other issues addressed by the Governor included provision of buses for student bodies, enhancement of electricity supply and security on campuses, employment opportunities and polling units on campuses.
The Governor said his administration will continue to give priority attention to the education sector and issues of welfare of students and youths.
Thanking the students on the state for conducting themselves in peaceful manner, Governor Aiyedatiwa promised to look into all other requests made by the student leaders with a view to addressing them in the shortest period of time.
Earlier, in a unified message, President of NAOSS, Hammed Oyelade; Ondo State Chapter of NANS, represented by Abiola Victor; representative of NAUS, Akerele Greatness; presidents of the Student Union Government from all tertiary institutions in the State, represented by Adegoriola Abejoye; and Babatunde Excel, pledged their support for Governor Aiyedatiwa.
The student leaders also assured that students in Ondo State will not partake in the planned August 1 protests in the state.
