Youths under the aegis of Akure Youths Forum( AYF) have threatened to recall a member of the House of Representatives, Derin Adesida (APC-Akure South/Akure North) over alleged non-performance.
The group in a statement on Tuesday in Akure by its leader Mr. James Adebowale, said the recall became necessary following failed representation.
The youths said that Adesida had failed to bring the dividends of democracy to the constituency, alleging the lawmaker had failed to execute or embark on meaningful projects, and empower the youths and women in the area.
They stated that some of the developmental projects embarked upon by former lawmakers from the constituency did not receive the lawmaker’s attention, noting that the construction of a new town hall initiated by former lawmaker, Hon. Afe Olowookere had been abandoned.
“Akure youths and residents were empowered during the time the late Hon. Omolafe Adedayo represented us. We want Hon. Adesida to come out with his score card in the last one year.
“It is time for Hon. Adesida to get set for his recall. We voted for him to give us good representation and not to abandon us and enrich himself, his family and some few people.
“We voted for him to bring dividends of democracy down to the people at the grassroots, but he has been quiet and there is nothing to point to as his achievement in the last one year.
“We have not seen or heard where our House of Representatives member empowers his people but he has been fixing street lights at the front of his loyal supporters, his family, political families and friends’ houses,” the group stated.
The youths said that it would mobilise people to sign a recall notice of the lawmaker if things remained unchanged in the next 30 days.
Reacting to the allegations, Mr. Femi Fasan, the legislative aide to the lawmaker, described AYF as a faceless group, noting that the group was being sponsored by some politicians.
“This is a faceless group. The group is being sponsored by politicians who want to contest in 2027 in the federal constituency.
“We are aware of them. Hon. Adesida has been performing well. So, I don’t know what they want,” he said. (NAN)
