The agreement assented to by singer Habeeb Okikiola, aka, Portable, when he was negotiating the purchase of the G-Wagon that eventually culminated in his arrest, has emerged online.
The Lagos State Police Command, on Tuesday, arrested Portable, allegedly for refusing to pay the debt he incurred when he purchased a G-Wagon from a car dealer earlier in the year.
During the photo ops that attended the car purchase back in January, the singer had claimed that the car cost N60m and that he had paid cash for it.
“I bought this with my money. It is N60m. I paid with my money,” Portable had claimed in a video post via his verified Instagram account in the aftermath of the purchase.
However, Police said that Portable had paid only N13m of the N27m actual total cost of the G-Wagon, with the understanding that he would pay the balance of N14m in instalments. The singer ended up not paying the balance, allegedly under the excuse that the vehicle was “bad.”
The auto dealer eventually reported the matter to the Police, and the singer was subsequently arrested on Tuesday in dramatic circumstances.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed that Portable had been arrested.
“Yes, Portable has been arrested. He bought G-Wagon for N27m, paid N13m and refused to pay the rest, claiming the vehicle was bad. We arrested him today,” SP Hundeyin stated.
