Police arrest 13 over Ekiti killing, abduction

The Nigeria Police Force said it has arrested 13 suspects linked to the killing of two monarchs in Ekiti State.

Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Muyiwa Adejobi who disclosed this confirmed measures were being taken to address the security challenges in the state.

Gunmen had on Monday attacked the Onimojo of Imojo, Oba Olatunde Olusola, and the Elesun of Esun Ekiti, Oba Babatunde Ogunsakin, while the Alara of Ara Ekiti, Oba Adebayo Fatoba, narrowly escaped.

The incident occurred as they returned from a security meeting in Kogi State, encountering kidnappers on the highway between Ipao and Oke Ako in the Ikole Local Government Area of Ekiti State.

Also, in the same area, kidnappers targeted a school bus, abducting five pupils of the Apostolic Faith Group of Schools, three teachers, and the bus driver.

According to Adejobi, the Inspector General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, has condemned the acts and deployed the Assistant Inspector General of Police, Abiodun Asabi, to Zone 17, Akure, Ondo State, to coordinate a comprehensive security response.

“Thirteen suspects have been arrested in connection with the incidents, and the IGP assures the public of the NPF’s commitment to ensuring justice and preventing a recurrence,” the FPRO said while he urged the public to remain calm, vigilant, and cooperative as efforts are made to restore peace and security in the affected areas.

Chairman of Ekiti State Traditional Council, Oba Ayorinde Ilori-Faboro, pledged the council’s determination to resolve the security crisis, emphasizing the exploration of all possible solutions.

He spoke after an emergency meeting convened by Governor Biodun Oyebanji, where monarchs and security chiefs deliberated on the way forward.
