Executive Director of Women Aid Collective, Prof. Joy Ezeilo [SAN], has raised concerns about the Nigerian Police Force commercialising their services and charging up to N300,000 for interventions and neglecting poor crime victims.
Ezeilo, a former UN Special Rapporteur on Human Trafficking who disclosed this in a post shared on her X account, described as disheartening that four years after #EndSars protest, justice has yet to be served.
The former Dean Faculty of Law University of Nigeria, who also was part of the #ENDSARS Judicial Panel of Inquiry on Police Brutality, stated that the decisions from the various Panels of Inquiry nationwide have yet to be implemented warning that without accountability, impunity continues.
“I was a part of the #ENDSARS Judicial Panel of Inquiry on Police Brutality. It’s disheartening that justice has not been served, and the decisions from the various Panels of Inquiry nationwide have yet to be implemented.
“Without accountability, impunity continues,” she declared, throwing support for constitutional creation of State Police and the reorganisation of the NPF for utmost professionalism.
“These days, the Nigerian Police Force (NPF) has started commercializing their services, charging fixed amounts as high as 300k (in Enugu, for example), and hardly responds to poor crime victims requiring their intervention.
“I support the constitutional creation of State Police and the reorganization of the NPF for utmost professionalism.”
