Preliminary enquiries into Mohbad’s death begins Friday -Coroner

Preliminary enquiries into the death of the late Nigerian singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad, will begin on Friday, September 29th.

The Coroner, Magistrate Taofikat Shotobi, disclosed this in a letter addressed to the law firm of Falana & Falana Chambers.

According to the letter, the inquest will hold specifically before Magistrate T.A. Shotobi at Magistrate Court 3, Ikorodu.

Falana & Falana Chambers had, last week, written the chief coroner at the high court in Ikeja, requesting an inquest to determine the cause of Mohbad’s death.

But in the letter addressed to the law firm on Tuesday, Lagos chief coroner, Mojisola A. Dada, said the inquiry into Mohbad’s death will begin on Friday.

The letter reads in part: “I have the directives of the Chief Coroner of Lagos State, Justice M.A. Dada, to notify your good office of his lordship’s order to convoke an inquest into the death of the above named late Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba aka Mohbad, in view of the letter from your office to the Chief Coroner over the tragic death which you stated occurred in Ikorodu, Lagos State in the circumstances which the convocation of an inquest pursuant to the extant provisions of As 14 and 15 of the Coroner’s System Law of Lagos State, CAP C15, Laws of Lagos State 2015.”

Mohbad’s death on September 12 and subsequent burial had been surrounded by lots of controversies, which generated outcry for an investigation into his death.

Following a widespread outcry, his body was exhumed for an autopsy and subsequently deposited at a morgue while investigation continues.
