A 30-year-old Nigerian man, Abiola Tijani, has been locked up for raping a woman he stalked and attacked on a Sheffield street.
Tijani, who lived on Cherry Street, admitted to the horrific crime and was sentenced on Thursday, November 9, at Sheffield Crown Court. He will serve eight years and three months in prison, followed by four years on licence.
The court was told that Tijani preyed on the woman in the early hours of Saturday 29 July, as she was walking home alone. He persistently tried to talk to her, before forcing her against some railings and r+ping her.
The judge also imposed a lifetime restraining order on Tijani, banning him from ever contacting the victim. He said: “No sentence I pass will undo the harm you caused or be considered adequate. What you did is every woman’s worst nightmare”.
Tijani had pleaded guilty at Sheffield Crown Court on September 8 and was remanded.
