Reasons you’re not seeing results from your workout

It can be frustrating if you are not seeing encouraging results after dedicating so much time, and resources to keeping fit at the gym.

While the gains may be gradual, it could also be that you are doing things wrongly.

See what you may be missing below:

You’re not getting enough rest: If you are committed to your workout routines, you also need time to rest for your body to recover. It is also better to avoid exhaustion. You can use the days you set aside to rest to do light workouts, such as stretching, or walking.

You’re not getting enough sleep: If you are not getting enough sleep, it can affect your energy level, which can lead you to unusual snacking habits. Lack of enough sleep can also slow down your metabolism. So, to improve your sleeping schedule, you can have a bedtime routine, put your phone on airplane mode or do not disturb, and avoid heavy foods before going to bed.

You’re not eating right: Your diet is a determining factor and it can influence the results you obtain from your workout. If there is no balance between your workout routines and what you eat, you may not see the results you desire.

There are certain foods you need to cut down on if you want to lose weight. For example, you need to cut down on your intake of processed foods, and excess calories. You may need to see a dietitian to draft a nutritional plan that fits your workout routine and body goals.

Your hormones: According to experts, hormones are involved in almost every aspect of our health, including sexual function, growth, and development. Hence, hormones are involved in fullness and hunger. An article on a health online portal noted that hormones regulate your appetite to help your body maintain energy levels.

“Some hormones stimulate hunger. Others signal that you’ve had enough to eat, inhibiting food intake. An imbalance in hormones involved in appetite control may lead to weight gain or weight loss,” it stated.

You’re not patient: There are no shortcuts to weight loss, so you can’t expect to begin your exercise routine today, and see the expected results in three days, even if you go on a crash diet. You have to give yourself enough time to see the results that you want. Muscles do not grow overnight, so you have to be consistent and patient.

Sweeteners

You’re using non-sugar sweeteners: The World Health Organisation warned against the use of non-sugar sweeteners for weight loss or to reduce the risk of non-communicable diseases. WHO said the recommendation was based on findings of a systematic review of available evidence.

It said findings suggested that the use of NSS does not confer any long-term benefit in the reduction of body fat in adults or children.

According to the guideline, the results of the review also suggest that there may be potential undesirable effects from long-term use of NSS.

The global health body also said the effects include increased risk of Type 2 diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, and adult mortality.
