Tragedy struck the Idi Ishin community in Ibadan as 69-year-old Ms Olaitan Gbenle, a retired Permanent Secretary with the Oyo State Government, was brutally murdered in her home.
It was gathered that the incident occurred between Thursday and Friday last week.
As reported by the Nigerian Tribune, a source said that Gbenle was strangled after being bound by her assailants, who also took away her two vehicles, phones, and ATM cards.
The grim discovery was made on Friday morning when she was found with her hands and legs tied, still wearing the dress she had on the previous day.
It was learnt that the perpetrators targeted her a day after she had reported threats to her life by hoodlums who frequently smoked marijuana near her residence.
Ms Gbenle, who had a maid residing with her until two months prior, was supposed to host a meeting of retired permanent secretaries and heads of service today, November 16.
The deceased, survived by her only child, a daughter who is a medical doctor, was an active member of the Association of Retired Heads of Service and Permanent Secretaries of Oyo and Osun States (AREHSPSOOS).
The association’s chairman, Bisi Adesola, expressed deep sorrow in a condolence message, announcing the cancellation of their scheduled quarterly meeting due to the tragic event.
The message also stated that further details about her funeral services would be communicated by the family.
In response to the incident, the Oyo State Police Command has initiated investigations into the murder case to apprehend the culprits responsible for this heinous act.
