First Lady Oluremi Tinubu says the Women Agriculture Support Programme arm of the Renewed Hope Initiative is set to launch in Imo State on February 28, and will financially support women farmers with N500,000 each.
In collaboration with the National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA), the Women Agriculture Support Programme initiative will assist an additional 80 farmers from each state with training, capacity building and purchasing produce after harvest, the First Lady said.
She also stated that the ongoing national challenging times would soon end with the right policies by the Federal Government, expressing optimism for peace, progress and prosperity and greater achievements in 2024.
According to a press release signed by Busola Kukoyi, Special Assistant [Media] to the First Lady, Tinubu spoke during a meeting in her office at the State House, Abuja, on Monday.
The release notes that the significance of the meeting was to unveil the proposed Young Farmers’ Club for public schools in each state, with the aim of encouraging food production among youths.
Tinubu also disclosed the plans for the reintroduction of the Alternative High School for Girls, targeting young females who dropped out of school due to various reasons such as early pregnancy, domestic violence and drug addiction.
She said the temporary nature of the current hardship required collective efforts to overcome them.
Commending the governors’ wives for their efforts in addressing challenges, particularly those arising from the removal of the fuel subsidy, Tinubu said they will, under the RHI, distribute 1,950,000 exercise books to public primary and junior secondary schools nationwide.
