Sellers banned from displaying cars on roads, walkways in Warri

Director General of the Warri, Uvwie, and Environs Special Area Development Agency (WUEDA), Mr. Godwin Ejinyere, has issued a seven-day ultimatum to car dealers, mechanics, and transporters within the agency’s jurisdiction, mandating them to operate solely within government-authorized premises.

The directive, issued during a sensitization campaign aimed at restoring order in the region, was emphasized on Friday.

Ejinyere’s first engagement was with the Car Dealers Association of Delta State, urging them to disseminate the message to all members to avoid penalties.

Highlighting the illegality of displaying cars on roads, walkways, and drainage slabs, Ejinyere warned that offenders would face impoundment of vehicles by a Task Force and immediate prosecution by a Mobile Court after the ultimatum.

Additionally, businesses operating along the fences of Government Technical College, Effurun, were instructed to relocate within 14 days or face arrest and prosecution by the agency.

Ejinyere also urged residents to clear gutters to prevent flooding and maintain public health standards. The President of the Delta State Car Dealers Association, Mr. Linus Ijiga, assured compliance with the directive.

Accompanied by the car dealers’ executive committee, Ejinyere inspected various shops, identifying areas requiring rectification. He further warned tricycle riders, mechanics, and mini-bus drivers against using roads as workshops or parks to prevent urban defacement and traffic congestion.

Emphasizing the seriousness of the directive, Ejinyere stressed the determination of the Delta State Governor, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, to revitalize the region for the benefit of all residents and attract investors.

Top officials of WUEDA, led by Mr. Simon Esi, Director of Administration and Finance, supported the sensitization campaign.
