About three buildings at Idumota area of Lagos Island have been engulfed by fire that emanated from one of the buildings.
The three buildings are at the intersection of Nnamdi Azikiwe and Docemo roads.
According to the Southwest Coordinator for National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), Ibrahim Farinloye, efforts were on to prevent the inferno from spreading further.
Meanwhile, the three structures of four-storey buildings and one of five-storey building were engulfed in the fire that had caused panic among traders and residents.
One of the buildings was said to have collapsed due to the intensity of the fire that had continued to rage since it emanated at about 8 am today, Wednesday.
In a related development, the News Agency of Nigeria reports Kano State Fire Service as saying a fire had razed 37 shops at Zawaciki area in Kumbotso Local Government of Kano State.
The spokesman of the service, Saminu Abdullahi, said the fire occurred about 01:37 a.m. on Wednesday [today].
“We received a distress call at about 01:37 a.m. from one Malam Baba that there was a fire outbreak at Zuwaciki.
“We quickly mobilised our personnel to the scene at about 01:47 a.m. and put out the fire so as not to spread to other shops,” Abdullahi said.
He said the 37 shops were on the ground floor of a multi-purpose building; and that three other shops were slightly damaged by the fire.
He said no life was lost, while the cause of the fire was being investigated.
