Gunmen suspected to be Fulani herdsmen have killed a man and abducted his wife and children in Enugu State.
Our reporter gathered that the incident happened on Saturday along Afa/Egede road in Udi local government area of Enugu State.
A viral video of the incident seen on Monday by our correspondent shows a middle aged man reportedly shot dead sitting at the front of Toyota Corolla passengers’ seat.
The vehicle with Lagos Reg. No. LSD 593 JH was also seen riddled with bullets.
A voice who narrated the incident in the video, called on the Enugu State government to come to the rescue of people of the area, adding that such incident has become the lot of the people of the area.
The narrator, who spoke in Igbo language said: “As you have seen, this man was shot dead along the road going from Afa to Egede in Udi Local Government Area of Enugu State. I am warning that people should be vigilant.
“These are the clothes of the wife. The kidnappers marched the survivors to the bush. They riddled their vehicle with bullets. We are calling on the government to come to our aid because there’s nothing we can do.
“As you have seen, we have good government. Nigerian soldiers are busy hunting members of the Eastern Security network (ESN), but they cannot protect the people of Enugu, especially the poor people using of Egede/Afa road.”
Meanwhile, the Enugu State Police Command has launched a manhunt to rescue the abducted family members and bring justice to the dead.
The Command’s spokesperson, DSP Daniel Ndukwe, who confirmed the incident, said that manhunt of the assailants had been launched.
“Manhunt of the armed men and rescue of the two reportedly abducted victims are ongoing. Further development will be communicated, please.”
